PRINT & DIGITAL
Newspapers and Magazine Advertising
Printed and digital Newspapers and magazines reach over 90% of the population each month so should be considered within a media campaign. Whilst printed media has declined over the last decade, the way people consume print media has changed. With the introduction of digital magazines and newspapers, alongside the printed version, it remains a strong media channel.
- Newspapers: leading Australian newspaper titles including the Herald Sun (Melbourne), The Daily Telegraph (Sydney), The Sydney Morning Herald, The Courier-Mail (Brisbane), The Age (Melbourne), The Australian, The Australian Financial Review, The Herald (Newcastle) and The Advertiser (Adelaide) The Sunday Mail (QLD & SA editions).
- Regional newspapers: across regional Australia there are hundreds of titles. Many of the regional newspaper titles are under the ownership of three large commercial media companies: News Corp, Australian Community Media and Seven West Media.
- Magazines: titles including Australian Women’s Weekly, TV week, Marie Claire, GQ Australia, Better Homes and Gardens, Cosmopolitan, Ideal Home, GQ, New Idea, Australian Country Magazine, Woman’s Day, Take 5, Vogue, House & Garden.
The most common advert sizes are Quarter Page, Half Page, Full Page. However, there are other formats such as wraps, as well as prime positioning which is also an important factor when placing an advert.
Alongside the standard spaces for press advertising, advertorials work well and sit within publications alongside existing content. They are generally produced by the publisher to adapt to the look and feel of the newspaper or magazine, so the reader feels like they are reading an editorial piece. This helps the reader with Brand trust, as it appears as though the publication is endorsing the brand.
Most publishers now have digital platforms for their publications and some only offer digital publications which all have similar advertising opportunities online, such as display advertising (Leader board & MREC’s) and native content (online advertorials) in the digital equivalents.
